He was a Minnesota high school state champion.In the final of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 84 kg category, Chad Gable went on to defeat Jordan Holm 2 to 0.He competed in the Greco-Roman style 84 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and defeated Keitani Graham from the Federated States of Micronesia in the qualification round. He was eventually eliminated from the competition in the next round as he lost 3–0 to Pablo Shorey of Cuba.He signed a contract with the professional wrestling promotion WWE in November 2013 and was assigned to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
