A Queensland police officer has waded through waist-high mud and muck for an hour to find a woman missing in a Gold Coast mangrove swamp.
The 20-year-old woman was camping with friends in Helensvale on Thursday night when she wandered off from her boat and became lost in pitch-black mangroves off Dalley Park Drive.
She called police for help about midnight, with one officer taking it up himself to traverse the harsh terrain.
“An officer from Coomera conducted a foot search, navigating his way through approximately 200m of knee-deep, and at times waist-deep, mud and thick scrub for almost an hour to locate the woman,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
Body-worn camera vision shows the officer, who introduces himself to the woman as Beau, speaking to the woman over the phone, urging her to stay where she is.
“Keep your phone on, I’m about 70m from you,” Beau said in the footage.

He can be heard wading and sloshing through water and is a little out of breath by the time he reaches the woman.
“The officer then used the sound of a horn from a police vehicle to assist in escorting the female back through the mud, at times needing to carry her to safety,” the police spokesperson said.
“The woman and officer were thankfully uninjured, albeit exhausted.”
