An Aussie Macca’s fan was shocked to discover her beloved coffee frappé doesn’t contain actual shots of caffeine.
Taking to TikTok, the woman, who posts under the username @boymamma1988, said she reverts to ordering the chilled beverage “every time it’s hot instead of [drinking] a normal coffee”.
“Today, I felt like an extra shot – so I asked [the worker], ‘How many shots is in that?’ so I could add another one,” the woman, whose video has been watched upward of 526,000 times, said.
“She goes, ‘Oh no, the coffee frappés don’t have any caffeine. There’s no real coffee, there’s no coffee shots, it is just flavoured syrup that tastes like coffee.’
“I was like, ‘Who wants an iced coffee without getting the caffeine?’
“She goes, ‘You have to add the shots to have the caffeine’. So you have the shots, plus the frappé, it costs about ten bucks. What?!”
A McDonald’s Australia spokeswoman confirmed to news.com.au that the coffee frappé does indeed contain caffeine – just not in the drink itself.
“The Coffee Frappe does include caffeine. This is through coffee powder, which is included in the syrup. For more information, customers can view a list of ingredients on our website,” she said.
It’s also worth noting that Macca’s customers can order an actual iced coffee – with milk, ice cubes and shots of caffeine – from McCafe.
Viewers of the TikTok were as surprised as the woman, however, with many writing “wow” and “no way”.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one [to be surprised],” @boymamma1988 responded to one comment. “Surely people don’t know this.”
