Michael Ben-Ari Biography

Michael Ben-Ari is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 12, 1963 in Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv District, Israel. Ben-Ari was denied a visa to the United States in November 2009. This was due to his arrest during protests against disengagement in 2005 and his support of Kahanist ideology.

In March 2010, in response to David Miliband’s statement that the Israeli cloning of British passports is “intolerable”, Aryeh Eldad commented: “I think the British are being hypocritical, and I do not wish to insult dogs here, since some dogs show true loyalty, [but] who gave the British the right to judge us on the war on terror?” The canine theme was taken up by Ben-Ari, who said: “Dogs are usually loyal, the British may be dogs, but they are not loyal to us. They seem to be loyal to the anti-Semitic establishment”.

In May 2011, he equated ‘leftists’ with Hezbollah and Hamas, calling them “germs” and “enemies of Israel”.

Ben-Ari, a Member of Knesset, was arrested and handcuffed on 1 June 2009. He had been involved in an incident in the West Bank near Yitzhar. He refused to get off an army truck, and demanded that soldiers from Israel Defense Forces and Israel Border Police explain to him the reasons they had handcuffed and arrested minors during a roadblocking protest. Reuven Rivlin, Knesset speaker, called the police commissioner to clarify that police have no authority to arrest MKs without his permission. YitzhakAharonovich (Internal Security Minister), justified the arrest, despite Ben Ari’s parliamentary immunity. He stated that he won’t allow MKs to violate the law. Ben-Ari responded by suggesting that Aharonovich verify the facts first before drawing conclusions. The IDF Spokesman’s Office began an investigation into whether Border Guard and IDF acted illegally with Ben-Ari. The Knesset Committee met on 16 June to discuss Ben-Ari’s arrest. Although the semantics of “arrest” were debated, it was determined that Ben-Ari had not been incarcerated. According to reports, a letter from Chief of General Staff stated that the IDF expected elected officials and public representatives to not fan the flames and follow the instructions given by the security forces. Ze’ev Elkin, Likud’s chairman of the committee, criticised the Ministry of Defense for not sending representatives and boycotting the meeting.

Ben-Ari was a member of the banned Kach Party, but he still considers himself Meir Kahane’s follower. He ran for the Herut-The National Movement party in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Both times, however, he was unsuccessful in his bid to be elected, as the parties failed to reach the threshold. The Jewish National Front joined Eretz Yisrael Shelanu in the lead up to the 2009 elections. The new alliance joined the National Union and Ben-Ari was fourth on the combined election list. As the party had won four seats, he was elected to the Knesset. He appointed Hebron residents, Kahanists Baruch Martzel and Itamar Be-Gvir as his aides to the Knesset.

In 2009, in an open letter to Israeli leaders and politicians, Ben-Ari stated that Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Israel would be an insult to the memory of Holocaust victims.
