Editor's Letter

Welcome to InStyle Now, a brand new iteration of InStyle that celebrates the people, projects, and topics that embody the moment: The movies that are critical and commercial darlings; the TV shows that are dominating the cultural conversation; the social media trends that are about to be viral. With InStyle Now we’ll highlight the talent, voices, beauty looks, and fashion designs that have impact, create conversations, and inspire movements: This is what’s in style right now.

Our first issue stars Eiza González, a name that will be on everyone’s lips and in everyone’s group chats soon, thanks to the buzzy new Netflix series (from the creators of Game of Thrones) 3 Body Problem and two upcoming Guy Ritchie projects. Being the topic of conversation isn’t new to González, but now, she’s determined to rewrite the narrative. “I remember being [told for] so many projects, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role,’” González tells writer Jessica M. Goldstein in our cover story. Getting out of the bombshell box, she explains, “has been single-handedly the biggest challenge of my career.” Her solution? Show critics and fans alike that she has the range.

And because we’re all about highlighting the talent behind the next big name on the red carpet, InStyle Now will also feature the fashion and beauty professionals who are helping the stars define their style today. In our spring issue we’ll introduce you to Matt Rez, the hair stylist responsible for some of Hollywood’s most enviable hues, and the Fashion Institute of Technology graduates who are designing the future of fashion. These imagemakers are truly defining the intersection of style and culture — our sweet spot.

I’m so glad to be introducing you to InStyle Now (and a special thanks to Macy’s for powering these stories) – I hope you enjoy it!

In the Fold

Take your wardrobe from drab to daring by dressing in the most artfully draped pieces of the season. It’s easy to evoke the aura of a modern Grecian goddess with fabulous folds and precious pinning that make any look stand out. But before you worry about appearing too costumey, know that this trend pairs nicely with more tailored options. Whether it was Ferragamo and JW Anderson’s fluid-like frocks, Prabal Gurung’s punchy separates, or Rabanne’s rock-n-roll ready-to-wear, there were plenty of draped runway options to inspire. And plenty more to shop.
