In a music industry evolving faster than ever before, it seems like records are broken every week. One track that certainly has taken an axe to records since its release is Taylor Swift’s comeback single ‘ME!’.
Taylor Swift kicked off her next era with the single on April 26th, with a new upbeat pop sound, far from 2017’s menacing Reputation. Roping in Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie for a feature, ‘ME!’ had the internet going wild.
Quick to debut at #1 on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, Taylor’s 16th to do so, ‘ME!’ also hit the #1 spot on the Global Spotify Chart and in over 85 countries on iTunes.
Over on Vevo, the track’s music video became the fastest ever to reach 100 million views, taking a mere 79 hours, as well as notching 65 million of those in 24 hours to become the platform’s most viewed video ever in a single day.
The music video had similar effects over on YouTube, becoming the biggest female and solo 24-hour debut on the platform, its 65.2 million views surpassing the 56.7 million amassed by Blackpink’s ‘Kill This Love’ and 55.4 million by Ariana Grande on ‘Thank U Next’.
Streaming figures flowed in thick and fast too, Amazon Music, in particular, having to rewrite the history books. ‘ME!’ notched the most first-day streams ever on the platform, the most in a debut week and the most “on-demand voice requests” on the company’s Alexa products.
Elsewhere, the track was Swift’s biggest single sales week ever in the UK and saw her become the first international female artist to debut at #1 on the UK Airplay Chart. Japan and India’s one-week streaming record by an international artist were also shattered, as was Mexico’s1st-day performance by a female artist.
Hate or love the ever-present Taylor Swift, it’s clear she’s just as powerful as ever.
